YEAR ONE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- Our initial target for year one was 3 schools for implementation. We have implemented the Bell South/Closing the Gaps program in six target schools
- A comprehensive school-to-work career path has been created in our county to link education with school-based health services.
- Significant in-kind and cash support has been provided by the local schools to develop, implement and expand program activities
- Preliminary data analysis indicates improvement in medication administration, an increase in students returning to the classroom for completion of a school day of instruction, and a decrease in the absentee rate due to head lice as a result of improved student and parent education.
YEAR ONE LESSONS:
- Collaborate with the major health providers in your community to assure you have a well-designed program
- Listen carefully to what schools need
- Think creatively about funding program activities
