Please read the following information carefully if you do not wish your telephone number to be shown when you make a call.
BellSouth began offering or will soon be offering Caller ID service to most subscribers in your area. Caller ID allows the name and telephone number of certain incoming calls to be seen on a special telephone or display device before answering the call.
If you do not want your number displayed to the called party, such as subscribers of Caller ID, you can prevent your number from being shown by using one of two special blocking options. Calls to 911 Emergency Service are not blocked using either option.
- Per-Call Blocking
Per-Call Blocking is automatically provided free-of-charge to single-line residence, single-line business, two-party residence, two-party business, public and semi-public coin stations, PTAS lines, BellSouth® Essex® service, digital ESSEX service, private-branch exchange trunks, and toll terminals.
With this blocking arrangement, simply pick up the telephone receiver and press [*] [6] [7] on a touch-tone phone before placing a call and you will automatically block your number from being seen. Listen for a confirmation tone followed by a dial tone. (Dial 1167 on rotary or dial-pulse phones to activate the blocking service.)
Your line is automatically equipped with Per-Call Blocking unless you request Per-Line Blocking.
- Per-Line Blocking
Per-Line Blocking is available free of charge upon request at any time to single-line residence, single-line business, private-branch exchange (PBX) trunks, BellSouth ESSX® service and digital ESSX service customers. Per-Line Blocking prevents calls made from your phone line from being displayed without dialing any additional numbers before placing a call. You can turn off Per-Line Blocking by pressing [*] [8] [2] on a touch-tone phone (1182 on rotary or dial-pulse phone) before placing a call. Two-party customers must call the business office and upgrade to a single line to be eligible for Per-Line Blocking.
Attention Key and Private-Branch Exchange (PBX) customers!
Some customer terminal equipment is not compatible with Per-Call and Per-Line Blocking. Therefore, it is necessary that you contact your equipment supplier to determine if these services are compatible with your equipment.
Many of our customers find that Per-Call Blocking is sufficient to handle the occasional instance in which they wish to place a "blocked" call. Subscribing to Per-Line Blocking can increase the chance of being billed for calls to customers that do not accept "blocked" calls. In addition, Per-Line Blocking may interfere with the normal function of voice mail services, like BellSouth MemoryCall® service.
If you have any questions, please call the business office.
