ROOKIE BRUCE LIETZKE, LEGEND LEE TREVINO AND DEFENDING
CHAMPION SAMMY RACHELS TO PLAY BELLSOUTH SENIOR CLASSIC
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - April 30, 2002 - SENIOR PGA TOUR rookie
Bruce Lietzke, TOUR legend Lee Trevino and defending
champion Sammy Rachels have all committed to play in
the 2002 BellSouth Senior Classic at Gaylord Opryland.
They join 47 others, including SENIOR TOUR rookie Fuzzy
Zoeller who previously committed to play in the tournament.
The 2002 tournament is scheduled for June 9 -16, with
the final round taking place on Father's Day.
Lietzke,
who became eligible for the SENIOR TOUR in July 2001,
has already posted three victories since joining the
SENIOR TOUR, including the 2001 3M Championship, 2001
SAS Championship and the 2002 Audi Senior Classic. In
just 10 appearances on the 2001 SENIOR TOUR, Lietzke
tabbed seven top-10 finishes, bringing his total winnings
on the SENIOR TOUR for 2001 to more than $1.1 million.
Lietzke also has 13 PGA TOUR wins.
Trevino,
the 1994 BellSouth Senior Classic champion, has 29 wins
on the SENIOR TOUR. His impressive career also includes
27 PGA TOUR victories, including the 1968 U.S. Open,
1971 U.S. Open, 1974 PGA Championship and the 1984 PGA
Championship. He won back-to-back British Open titles
in 1971 and 1972. Trevino was a member of six American
Ryder Cup teams and captain of the 1985 squad. In 1981
he became a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The
2001 BellSouth Senior Classic gave Sammy Rachels his
first win on the SENIOR PGA TOUR. He grabbed the second
win of his rookie year at the Transamerica and landed
a spot in the top-31 on the 2001 SENIOR TOUR money list,
with a total of more than $900,000. He became eligible
for the SENIOR TOUR by finishing sixth in the National
Qualifying Tournament.

The 9th annual BellSouth Senior Classic at Gaylord Opryland
is a premier stop on the SENIOR PGA TOUR and will be
broadcast nationwide on CNBC and PAX networks. Since
its inception in 1994, the BellSouth Senior Classic
has donated more than $1.6 million to Tennessee charities.
This year's beneficiaries are Vanderbilt Children's
Hospital, Family & Children's Service, Tennessee Lions
Charities, Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts
