2001 CHARLES SCHWAB CUP CHAMPION ALLEN DOYLE AND
TOUR LEGEND GARY PLAYER TO PLAY BELLSOUTH SENIOR CLASSIC
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - May 14, 2002 - 2001 Charles Schwab Cup Champion
Allen Doyle and TOUR legend Gary Player join the list
of 62 others who have committed to play in the 2002
BellSouth Senior Classic at Gaylord Opryland. The 2002
tournament is scheduled for June 9 -16, with the final
round taking place on Father's Day.
Doyle
was the inaugural winner of Charles Schwab Cup, a season-long,
points-based program for SENIOR TOUR players. He finished
the 2001 season with 2,382 Schwab Cup points, earning
him a $1 million annuity, which he donated to several
charities. In 2001 he also received the Arnold Palmer
Award for being the season's leading money winner on
the SENIOR TOUR and the Jack Nicklaus Trophy after he
was voted Player of the Year by his peers.
TOUR
legend Gary Player finished his 2001season with three
top-10 finishes on the SENIOR TOUR. A long-time fan
favorite, Player earned 21 victories on the PGA TOUR
including the 1961, 1974 and 1978 Masters Tournaments
as well as the 1965 U.S. Open. He also claimed the 1959,
1968 and 1974 British Opens. On the SENIOR TOUR, Player
has 19 wins to his name and 10 Georgia-Pacific Super
Seniors victories. At the 2000 BellSouth Senior Classic,
Player became the youngest ever to shoot his age on
the SENIOR TOUR when he fashioned an 8-under-par 64
in the opening round to earn him his 10th Georgia-Pacific
Super Seniors title.

TOUR players have until June 7th to commit to playing
the BellSouth Senior Classic. The current list of players

9th annual BellSouth Senior Classic at Gaylord Opryland
is a premier stop on the SENIOR PGA TOUR and will be
broadcast nationwide on CNBC and PAX networks. Since
its inception in 1994, the BellSouth Senior Classic
has donated more than $1.6 million to Tennessee charities.
This year's beneficiaries are Vanderbilt Children's
Hospital, Family & Children's Service, Tennessee Lions
Charities, Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts
of America, Girl Scout Council of Cumberland Valley
and Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee.
